Aafiya has loved cooking since she was a kid, and watched her mom and grandma make home-cooked meals for her family every day. Coming from a family of eight, she learned early on the importance and joy of cooking a meal that the whole family could enjoy. In addition to cooking, Aafiya held a fascination for baking and it was such interests and fascinations that led Aafiya to join the Sprouts Chef Training Program where she worked at Little Bee Baking under Chef Mentor Stacie Pierce. Upon beginning her internship, Aafiya learned quickly how precise baking must be. Once, while making Funfetti cupcakes, Aafiya's colleague Chef Nadia pointed out that some of the batter was separating, and, upon further inspection, Aafiya learned that this was because the butter had not been mixed completely despite having been mixed with a standing mixer. This need for precision pushed Aafiya to ask more clarifying questions and she credits her internship with helping improve her communication skills. "About 70% of the things I've learned in this internship I would not have learned if I hadn't asked," she remarks. Since Aafiya is interested in Psychology, she was particularly interested in learning about the science of baking. Aafiya does well with tactile, hands-on work and put those skills to task when helping prepare kits, for the creation of baked goods that would be used for future shifts. For the kits, she used an ounce scale to measure ingredients to precise measurements and label them for the next baker to prepare during their next shift. When Aafiya is not cooking or baking, she enjoys meeting new people and helping others. Cooking is her love language, and she is grateful for the experience at Little Bee Baking to hone her skills and learn more about the profession. It is clear Chef Stacie enjoys working with Aafiya as well, as upon completion of her internship, Chef has offered Aafiya a job at Little Bee Baking!
