Trainee story

Audrey’s enthusiasm and strong work ethic shine through in her approach to learning, and she’s especially eager to hone her skills in the kitchen. With a lifelong interest in food, Audrey has always been drawn to the ways in which food brings people together, whether through her love of baking in high school or her curiosity about the economic and social aspects of the culinary world. Though initially hesitant about pursuing a career in the kitchen, Audrey's internship at Ofena with chef Tim Humphrey has solidified her desire to work behind the line and in the culinary field full-time.

 Throughout her internship, she’s gained valuable hands-on experience, from prepping ingredients like onions and parsley to mastering the art of plating. Audrey has particularly enjoyed working on the cold station and is excited about the opportunity to explore other areas, including the hot line, pastry, and mixology. The fast-paced kitchen environment has been a thrilling challenge for Audrey, allowing her to build confidence, organization, and time management skills—areas where she has seen significant growth. Her ability to plate quickly and beautifully has become one of her favorite accomplishments, giving her a strong sense of pride.

What stands out about Audrey is her willingness to learn and her eagerness to ask questions. She values mentorship and appreciates the supportive, respectful atmosphere fostered by her chef mentors and coworkers. She has embraced the feedback and room for growth provided by the team, understanding that mistakes are part of the learning process. Audrey’s passion for the industry has only deepened through this experience, and she is particularly inspired by the chefs who balance their work with a healthy lifestyle, dispelling some of the negative stereotypes about the culinary field.

Beyond the kitchen, Audrey enjoys playing video games—especially typing and cooking-related games—reflecting her love for both food and fun. Her time at Sprouts has been a rewarding challenge, allowing her to contribute meaningfully to the team and feel like she’s giving her best effort. Audrey is grateful for the opportunity to work in a positive, supportive kitchen environment and looks forward to continuing her culinary journey with a newfound confidence and passion for the craft.
