Trainee story

Nick discovered his passion for cooking at his after school program, Boys and Girls Club, when he participated in Cooking Club and learned to make fluffy Japanese pancakes, his new favorite meal. His interest led him to apply to Sprouts Chef Training, where he was matched with Stanford Dining Hall under Chef Mentor Christina Betondo.During his internship, Nick got to practice his knife skills and learned proper techniques for different knife cuts under mentor Chef Christina. He especially enjoyed learning how to butterfly cut chicken. As his skills improved, he was able to work at different dining halls at Stanford University, and was also trained on how to work catered events throughout campus. Nick found his communication skills improving as well, and learned that over-communication was better than under-communication when it comes to perfecting his cooking techniques.Nick greatly enjoyed working at Stanford and hopes to continue working there after his internship. He is grateful to Amazon for supporting the opportunity to learn with the Chef Training Program. When Nick is not cooking, he enjoys playing soccer and volleyball. We hope Nick continues to explore his passion for cooking and is able to showcase his skills at Stanford and beyond!
