Noreaga Reyes-Ortega is a bright and determined intern who is eager to learn and grow in the culinary field. With a strong desire to master the art of cooking professionally, Noreaga sees culinary arts as an essential life skill and is motivated to understand the terminology and techniques used in the industry. Though he’s still exploring his passion, he believes this might be the career path for him. Known for his reliability, maturity, and accountability, Noreaga is focused on making the most of the opportunities presented to him. His biggest fear is failure, but he is determined to avoid squandering any chances that come his way.
Before joining the Sprouts program, Noreaga faced challenges in high school due to the impact of COVID, but he pushed through and worked hard to stay on track, attending classes before and after school while maintaining his job. His family, especially his brother, has been a big support in his life. Although he has worked at Primark, he is now interested in gaining hands-on experience in the culinary field at the Nourish Spot with Chef Jade Duncan.
Noreaga enjoys working with his young coworkers, appreciating the professional atmosphere and their understanding attitude. He has been learning essential kitchen skills, including cutting various fruits, juicing, and even learning how to make acai bowls. He recently mastered the art of cutting pineapples and now enjoys cutting apples the most for their simplicity. He has even asked his mom for a blender to practice making juices at home, showing his enthusiasm for learning beyond the program.
Though Noreaga has primarily focused on fruit prep, he has expressed an interest in learning how to bake and continues to work on his knife skills. His experience has also taught him how to work in a fast-paced environment, which he enjoys. Noreaga is open-minded about his future and is considering a career in cooking, having previously explored electrical work through trade school. The fast-paced nature of the kitchen appeals to him, and he is excited about the possibility of pursuing baking as a profession.
